Brighton attorney Ronald James Plunkett was arraigned Thursday on a cocaine possession charge.
Livingston County District Judge Theresa Brennan set a $200,000 cash or surety bond for the 50-year-old Ann Arbor man, who remained in the county jail as of 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Plunkett also is charged with driving with a suspended license. His driver's license was suspended Jan. 18 when he failed to pay speeding tickets as well as a driver responsibility fee, according a Michigan Secretary of State spokesman.
Plunkett declined the Daily Press & Argus' request for comment Thursday, referring calls to his attorney, Jules Fiani, who did not return messages.
State police arrested Plunkett late Wednesday afternoon on an outstanding warrant alleging he had less than 25 grams of cocaine in his possession when undercover narcotics officers stopped him in Hamburg Township in January.
Officials with the county sheriff's department, the prosecutor's office and LAWNET all declined to comment on the case, citing the ongoing investigation.
Plunkett has handled high profile cases in Livingston County, including the case of Sean McEvoy, a teen convicted of setting fire to Howell High School.
Plunkett's arrest led Ann Arbor police to re-open their investigation into the death of 22-year-old Tiffany Gregory, of Ypsilanti, who collapsed at an apartment that Plunkett was renting.
Authorities continue to decline to say whether Plunkett was there that fatal day or if he, or anyone else, is facing charges in connection with Gregory's death.
An autopsy revealed Gregory had a mixture of cocaine, heroin and alcohol in her system. Her death was classified as
accidental.
Steve Hiller, deputy chief with the Washtenaw County prose-cutor's office, said his officer had not received a report on Gregory's death as of Thursday.
