11.29.2006 - RAINELLE, W.Va. - Rainelle's two-man police force has resigned. Chief J-P Stevens says he and Patrolman Shawn Thomas decided over the weekend to quit because they didn't want to be caught up in a State Police investigation over alleged misconduct by the mayor. Neither showed up for work Monday. The mayor, Eugene McKenzie, says he's not mad at either officer for quitting and even hopes Stevens considers coming back to serve as chief. Meanwhile, the mayor says emergencies will be handled by the Greenbrier County Sheriff's Department and State Police. The State Police is investigating complaints alleging misuse of power and improper conduct at public meetings by the 78-year-old mayor, who intends to run for re-election next year. McKenzie believes political enemies are behind the allegations, which he says are all untrue. www.woay.com/news.cfm?showarticle=430E9BC2-0937-4566-9F51423663F4F7A5

I thought police officers protected and served the public? I don't think I would ever approve of hiring those two officers in my town, specially if they just get up and quit.
