06.03.2006 - CANTON, N.Y. - A former police officer who went looking for her husband at another woman's home and ended up beating her with a portable phone was indicted Friday.
Officer Tammy Mackin, 36, of Russell, was charged with first- and second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespass and third-degree assault.
The incident took place when Mackin went to search for her husband Jan. 16 at the home of Jaimee Whitford of Edwards, about 120 miles north of Syracuse.
Authorities said they found Mackin inside the home punching and biting Whitford on the left leg and hitting her with a portable phone.
Mackin, who was off duty at the time of the incident, was fired in late February following a departmental disciplinary hearing.
