It all began as a repossession warrant, but as the deputy constable and several repo men tried to go inside the house, a dog jumped out.
The dog is called Princess, but deputies say she was anything but well behaved when Precinct Seven Deputy Constable Charles Menefield, several repo men, and locksmith Stuart Day tried to approach the house.
"Attempted to bite me and actually grabbed a hold of my foot and part of my leg but never broke the skin. That's when the dog turned toward the constable and the constable fired one shot at the dog and actually shot himself in the foot," said Day.
When the gunshot rang out, Day and the repo men immediately thought of one thing -- getting away.
"I didn't want no part of that. Bullets don't have eyes, and I'm not going to be nowhere close to no bullets. So I was on the other side of the house and wasn't coming back until it was over," said repo man William Campbell.
Deputy Menefield was transported to a nearby hospital. The dog was captured and the repo continued. That left the constables with one thing to decide -- whether any charges would be filed against Alan Trevino, the renter living in the house. Initially there were no charges filed, but late Thursday afternoon, a charge of terroristic threat was filed against Trevino. Deputies allege he tried to sic princess on Menefield. It's a charge he denies.
"The little kids around here, they play with her all time, it's a house dog," said Trevino. "I've never seen it bite nobody. Apparently she was trying to bite somebody because they were trying to get into the house."
Trevino, who was initially not arrested, has since been placed into custody on a Class B misdemeanor. The dog will be held by animal control for at least ten days before it decides what happens next.
