April 28, 2006 -- An April 27 arraignment of John Stolpe, a LB Police Officer and former LB Mayoral candidate charged by the L.A. City Attorney's office with one misdemeanor count each of battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and being nude in a public park [L.A.'s Griffith Park], has been continued (i.e. rescheduled) to May 17.
The L.A. City Attorney's office filed the three charges shortly before the scheduled April 27 hearing. Stolpe was arrested April 6 at roughly 1:15 p.m. for allegedly resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer/peace officer (L.A. city Park Ranger) in discharging that officer's duties.
Mr. Stolpe, 49, is an LBPD Corporal and was making his second shoestring-budget run for Mayor. He is also a former member of the governing board of the LB Police Officers Association.
Telephone calls by LBReport.com to Mr. Stolpe's lawyer have not been returned.
Mr. Stolpe told us on April 8, "I was basically at the wrong place at the wrong time. I was pushed, pepper sprayed, pushed down three hills and beaten with a metal baton by an overzealous Park Ranger who didn't use proper procedure which resulted in my injuries," adding that the facts will come out in court.
