03/24/2006 - SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- A 35-year-old man who was fired from two law enforcement agencies in Atascosa County was arrested overnight in San Antonio on suspicion of impersonating a peace officer.
Jonathan Serrato was arrested at 12:30 a.m. Friday after he was spotted allegedly stealing ceramic tiles, San Antonio Park Police Chief Steven Baum said.
When Serrato was questioned by a park police officer, he allegedly showed the officer a peace officer badge, Baum said.
The park officer, though, remained suspicious of Serrato and ran a check on him, Baum said.
The check revealed that Serrato was wanted on two active warrants from 2004 for theft of firearms, Baum said.
Serrato, who was fired from the Jourdanton Police Department and the Atascosa County Sheriff's Department, would allegedly pawn his service weapons for cash and then buy them back when he needed the weapons for law enforcement duty, Baum said.
Serrato was being held in the Bexar County Jail on bonds totalling $101,500.
