09.07.2006 - MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. — State police have arrested a former south-central Kentucky sheriff after an 11-month investigation led to a grand jury indictment. Jeffrey Staples, 50, of Munfordville was charged with seven counts of abuse of the public trust, 16 counts of receiving stolen property and one count of possession of a defaced firearm, state police said. Detective Forrest Winchester said the public trust charges involved money and property, but declined to release further information. Staples, who served as sheriff of Hart County for more than 12 years, was arrested Tuesday and posted bond later that evening. www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060906/NEWS01/60906002/1008/NEWS01
