July 22, 2006 - A Del Rio police officer was arrested Friday on three separate charges.
Del Rio Police Officer Angelina Rodriguez was arrested Friday afternoon after she was reportedly involved in an incident where theft occurred around 1 a.m. Friday.
Rodriguez had recently been reinstated to the department after being placed on “indefinite suspension” last summer for allegedly stealing from the Wal-Mart store in Del Rio.
Del Rio Police Chief Waylon Bullard said during an interview Friday evening that Rodriguez was reinstated after a third party arbitration hearing ruled in her favor earlier this year.
Arbitration hearings are an available option for any civil service employee with the city of Del Rio.
No other information on the outcome of the hearing was available at press time.
Rodriguez’s first day back on the job was July 17 and, according to Bullard, Rodriguez was off duty Tuesday and Wednesday.
A press release delivered to the Del Rio News-Herald by the police department states that an investigation was immediately opened into the most recent theft by the DRPD Criminal Investigations Division and their findings resulted in Rodriguez’s arrest.
Rodriguez is charged with abuse of official capacity, theft over $500 but less than $1,500 and tampering with a witness.
Rodriguez was magistrated by Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Joey Gonzalez. Her bond was set at $175,000.
Bullard said Rodriguez is on administrative leave with pay pending a meeting between Bullard and city attorney David Sorola to decide the next course of action.
