June 14, 2006 - Authorities arrested Sgt. Richard Waters, 36, of the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office, June 6 and booked him for second-degree burglary and theft.
Two weeks ago the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office received a complaint from Liberty Bell High School between Twisp and Winthrop. The complaint involved a burglary and theft of several items from the school.
During the course of the investigation, it was apparent that the suspect involved was an Okanogan County Sheriff's deputy sergeant, Sheriff Frank Rogers said in a press release. Thats when he asked for help from the Grant County Sheriff's Office. All of the information was turned over to them and they conducted the criminal investigation, Rogers said.
As a result the Grant County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant on the Richard Waters residence June 5, where several of the stolen items were recovered.
Officer Waters was taken into custody by Grant County detectives and booked into the Okanogan County Jail.
Waters, a 13-year veteran, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
