Officer Raymond Montefusco Cop Sentenced For Role In Burglary Ring 06.08.2006 - EAST NORTHPORT--Former Suffolk County police officer Raymond Montefusco will be spending the next five to 15 years in prison. The 37-year-old East Northport resident was convicted following jury trial in February of 15 criminal charges in a November 2004 indictment charging him with burglary, receiving reward for official misconduct, official misconduct and criminal facilitation. Assistant district attorney Peter Timmons presented evidence during the trial that Montefusco worked as a lookout for the burglary ring during three burglaries in 1999 and 2000. Jurors heard a recording of a police radio call Montefusco made while on duty that called off squad cars responding to an alarm tripped by his partners during the burglary of the Bay Shore King Kullen on Nov. 8, 1999. For over 10 years, Montefusco worked as a Suffolk police officer in the third precinct. He retired two years ago on a retirement disability for a wrist injury. District Attorney Thomas Spota said the defendant "repeatedly risked the safety of residents and his fellow officers" by assisting the burglary ring. "He made a decision to satisfy his greed and ignore his oath. Now, he'll pay an appropriate penalty in an upstate prison," DA Spota said.
