June 14, 2006 - RIDGELAND -- A Jasper County Sheriff's Office deputy was fired Monday and arrested on suspicion of stealing a compound bow and arrow while out on a call to a Hardeeville home, according to Chief Deputy Roy Hughes of the Sheriff's Office.
Officer Curtis Jered Bryan, 29, of Ridgeland, was charged with grand larceny and misconduct in office Monday for taking a compound bow and arrow valued at $1,500 on Saturday from the garage of a Hardeeville home.
Bryan, a patrol officer since June 2005, originally arrived at the home Saturday because the security alarm went off after a resident entered the pass code wrong, Hughes said. On Sunday, the homeowner reported the bow and arrow missing and said Bryan had been the only stranger in his house, Hughes said.
The bow and arrow was found at Bryan's home and returned to the owner, police said.
Bryan was released Tuesday from the Jasper County Detention Center on his own recognizance. An internal investigation continues through the State Law Enforcement Division, Hughes said.
