A Georgetown police officer surrender to authorities Thursday and now faces charges related to the recent death of a veterinarian who was struck by an SUV while jogging along Del. 20.
Bradley Cordrey, 25, of Seaford, was released Thursday night after being charged with misdemeanor operation of a motor vehicle causing death of another person.
According to state police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Oldham, Cordrey was off-duty on Aug. 13 when he ran off the road on Del. 20 and hit Sandra Dykstra with his sport utility vehicle.
The 42-year-old mother of three was out jogging near her Seaford home when the crash occurred. She later died of her injuries.
Dykstra and her husband John, both veterinarians, operated the Easter Shore Veterinary Hospital on U.S. 13 near Laurel.
On Monday, Oldham said, a grand jury indicted Cordrey on the charges and issued a warrant for his arrest.
“It’s a real tragedy all around,” he said. “I know this guy must feel as bad as anyone can feel. He’s a young guy who chose law enforcement as a career to help people out, and that’s the last thing you’d ever want to do.”

If I or anybody else runs over and kills a jogger we would be charged with vehicular homicide.
