06.27.2006 - LAFAYETTE, La. A Shreveport doctor and a Calcasieu Parish sheriff's deputy are among 12 men indicted on federal child pornography charges as part of a stepped up effort to curtail sexual predators. Doctor John Davis, who is 71, was charged with attempted production of child pornography. Officer Dennis McGehee, a 20-year veteran of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, faces a charge of possessing child pornography. He also faces rape and multiple molestation charges at the state level and has been in jail since February. U-S Attorney Donald Washington of Shreveport said at a news conference in Lafayette today that a grand jury indicted eleven men on June 13th. The other man faces a criminal complained filed by federal prosecutors. The accused range in age from 24 to 71 and live statewide. Washington says the indictments illustrate that such crimes can be committed by anyone, from uncles to grandparents. Attorney General Charles Foti says state laws have recently been toughened to allow for prosecuting online solicitation -- when an adult entices a child to have sex or take pictures of themselves doing sexually explicit things. But federal laws often carry heftier sentences; on a first offense for enticing a child to engage in criminally sexual conduct, the minimum mandatory sentence is 15 years in prison. www.klfy.com/Global/story.asp?S=5071811
