February 17, 2007 A captain in the New York Police Department with 15 years on the force has been arrested on charges of domestic assault and suspended for 30 days without pay, police said. It was the second arrest and suspension for domestic assault, both involving the same woman, that Capt. Alberto Sanchez, 41, has faced in the last three months, authorities said. He was arrested Friday. Police said the victim was a 32-year-old woman with whom Sanchez had a relationship, but they would not give more specifics. Published reports said she also is a police officer and that she was Sanchez's girlfriend. Sanchez, who was assigned to the Cadet Corp, was first arrested Dec. 3 after the woman said he assaulted her two days earlier in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx, according to police and court records. He served a 30-day suspension without pay, received a desk appearance ticket and was placed on modified assignment for Patrol Borough Queens North. He was arrested again after police investigated a new claim by the woman that Sanchez had assaulted her Sept. 1 in the East Village. It was unclear why the woman had not reported the earlier incident. Sanchez is due back in Bronx Criminal Court on Feb. 22 for a hearing before Judge Judith Lieb on the December assault charge. Two prior appearances before Lieb were adjourned and Sanchez was released on his own recognizance each time, court records show. www.newsday.com/news/local/wire/newyork/ny-nycop0218,0,3720831.story?coll=ny-top-headlines
