January 25, 2007 A state corrections officer accused of assaulting his girlfriend in a domestic violence incident entered into a plea agreement yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to a misdemeanor charge. Bryan Jones, 34, an officer at the Toledo Correctional Institution, pleaded no contest to attempted aggravated menacing. He will be sentenced Feb. 21 by Judge Gary Cook, who accepted the plea and found him guilty. Attempted aggravated menacing carries a 90-day jail sentence and a $750 fine. Because the conviction was a misdemeanor and not a felony, it will not affect Mr. Jones' employment at the prison, Meredith Rinna, a spokesman at the Toledo prison, said. The conviction stems from an incident June 25 at a residence on Merle Street which he shared with his then-girlfriend, Paula J. Walters. He was accused of kicking and punching Ms. Walters, threatening to kill her, and grabbing her by the throat. A Lucas County grand jury indicted Mr. Jones in October on a felonious assault charge. Jevne Meader, an assistant county prosecutor, said the plea deal met with the satisfaction of Ms. Walters, 33, and investigating police officers. toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070125/NEWS02/701250376
