11.23.2006 - RIVERSIDE - A Riverside County sheriff's deputy was booked Monday on felony charges for allegedly driving drunk and causing a three-car wreck that left one person injured. Deputy Richard Kamstra, 46, was arrested and processed at the county jail in Indio, according to Ingrid Wyatt of the Riverside County District Attorney's Office. He was released after posting $50,000 bail, she said. According to court documents, Kamstra was at the wheel of his 2005 Chevy Tahoe on Sept. 16 when he collided with two other vehicles at the intersection of Mission Hills and Dinah Shore drives. Tests taken within an hour of the crash revealed Kamstra's blood-alcohol level was .21, according to a police report. "Kamstra admitted to drinking three to four bottles of beer prior to the collision," the report said. The driver of one of the cars Kamstra collided with, Eugene Fasciana, was injured, according to the report. Wyatt was unable to update Fasciana's condition. The two-count indictment against Kamstra charges him with driving while intoxicated and causing great bodily injury to another person while operating a motor vehicle. Both are felonies. Wyatt said the deputy has been on administrative leave since the incident. Kamstra is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 20 at the Larson Justice Center in Indio. He's facing the possibility of six years behind bars if convicted, Wyatt said. cbs2.com/topstories/local_story_324212827.html
