11.22.2006 - A Surfside Beach police officer charged with driving under the influence remained at J. Reuben Long Detention Center Wednesday afternoon, according to jail officials. Officer Thomas Jordan, who has been a Surfside police officer for about seven years, was not on duty when state highway patrol officers arrested him earlier this week for DUI, Surfside Beach Police Chief Carmen Burke said. ``He was on family medical leave about 10 weeks before this happened,'' Burke said. ``He was not working when this happened and he's not working now as he is still on leave.'' According to state Highway Patrol Officer Senior Trooper Sonny Collins, Jordan's minivan struck a parked car around 9:35 p.m. Monday on Heathmuer Drive in a subdivision of S.C.544. Troopers found evidence to believe Jordan was under the influence, Collins said. He said no one was injured and it is unknown whether Jordan was wearing a seat belt as he was standing by his car when troopers arrived. www.myrtlebeachonline.com/mld/myrtlebeachonline/news/local/16076608.htm
