FBI agent charged with drunken driving
From the Bloomington Herald-Times, August 6, 2003
Tony Siedl, a longtime FBI agent, has been formally charged with driving while intoxicated-nearly seven months after his January arrest.
The misdemeanor charges were filed Thursday in Monroe County Circuit Court by special prosecutor Stan Levco, of Vanderburg County. Levco was appointed in June to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest with the Monroe County prosecutor's office.
Around 10:30 p.m. Jan 3, the FBI vehicle Siedl was driving crashed into the guardrails on both sides of Ind. 446, south of the Lake Monroe causeway, according to an Indiana State Police news release.
Siedl, 49, of Bedford, had been coming from the retirement dinner in honor of former FBI agent Gary Dunn, which was held that night at Terry's banquet hall, behind the old Ivy-Tech State College, said FBI spokesman Doug Garrison on Tuesday. Siedl's blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.13, the state police news release said. Indiana's legal limit is 0.08.
After being treated at Bloomington Hospital for minor head injuries, Siedl was released to jail authorities early the next morning.
In January, Garrison said that the FBI would conduct an inquiry regarding the incident, but likely after formal charges were filed. He also said that FBI vehicles can only be used for official purposes, under federal law.
On Tuesday, Garrison said he wouldlook into the status of the agency's inquiry. Siedl could not be reached for comment on Tuesday, and a defense attorney was not listed in the court filings. His hearing is set for Sept. 10.
