06.21.2006 - Acadia Parish officials say an off-duty Acadia Parish sheriff's deputy was arrested early Wednesday morning. Officials are telling us an Acadia Parish sheriff's deputy was pulled over at about 2:00 in the morning. According to state police, troopers were called out to a crash on U.S. 90, between Rayne and Crowley. When they got on-scene, troopers realized it was actually a hit-and-run crash. Troopers arrested Anthony George of Crowley and booked him for DWI first offense, hit-and-run and driving left of center. The other people involved in the crash were transported to the hospital for minor injuries, but were later released. Due to a packed jail capacity, George was released on a signature bond, which state police say is not uncommon. Trooper Willie Williams says it's a common procedure with the Acadia Parish jail. He says if the jail is over-crowded for whatever reason, then the person who was brought in for DWI is released on a signature bond. Acadia Parish sheriff Wayne Melancon says he will make a formal statement about the arrest Thursday morning. www.klfy.com/Global/story.asp?S=5062559
