03/23/2006 - A Syracuse Police officer is suspended with pay, after being arrested on a DWI charge.
Police say Officer Brian Novitsky had more than two times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood about two hours after a Saturday night crash.
The crash happened around nine o'clock on Route 31 in Clay.
According to police reports, witnesses said Novitsky's car crashed into the back of a truck stopped at a traffic light. No injuries were reported.
The president of the Syracuse Fire Fighters Association says this could've happened to anyone in any profession.
"There are mistakes that are sometimes made, and I have to believe that this officer obviously made a very bad mistake," said Syracuse Fire Fighters Association President James Ennis.
Novitsky may be changed to inside duty and an investigation by the Syracuse Police Internal Affairs Division could follow.
According to officials, his pay could later be revoked.
