04/01/2006 - A Lakeway police officer remains on restricted duty after being charged with a DWI.
The off-duty officer failed a field sobriety test after he was involved in a wreck in northern Travis County.
He allegedly admitted to drinking six beers.
A Travis County deputy arrested 30-year-old officer Brian McCannon after the collision on FM 2769 last Saturday.
Driving a 2002 KIA Rio, McCannon crossed into on-coming traffic and struck another vehicle.
Arrest records show he took a breath-a-lyzer test and blew a 0.15.
He was taken to jail. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The Lakeway police chief says the officer will not be working on the streets.
The department wants to avoid the appearance of impartiality.
The chief will wait for the outcome of the charge before making a final decision.
McCannon faces losing his peace officer license if convicted.
