10.12.2006 - A former Honolulu police officer was sentenced to five years and five months in prison this morning for selling three ounces of methamphetamine to a police informant last year. Officer Robert Sylva, 50, a 22-year veteran of the police force, pleaded guilty in December to selling the drug in a parking lot on Ward Avenue on March 21 last year while wearing his uniform. As part of a plea agreement, two other charges of selling smaller amounts of the drug to the informant the same month were dropped. Sylva is no longer a police officer, according to police. Sylva faced a prison term of 87 months to 108 months under the federal guidelines, but Assistant U. S. Attorney Michael Kawahara cited the former officer's cooperation and asked that he be sentenced with a lower range of 63 months to 78 months. U. S. District Judge David Ezra imposed the sentence. Sylva was arrested in March last year and has been in custody since that time. He will be given credit for the time he has spent behind bars in connection with the case. the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2006/Sep/28/br/br3829476051.html
