06.16.2006 - HANCOCK COUNTY - Narcotics agents arrested three men in a drug raid Wednesday, one of them a former elected official.
Agents raided an area in the Kiln known as Graceland. The area is a haven for dope dealers, according to a release from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
Agents arrested 38-year-old Danny Hamby, a former constable and sheriff's deputy, on charges of possession and transfer of crystal methamphetamine, a highly addictive home-brewed drug that can be smoked, swallowed, snorted or injected.
Hamby was elected constable in 1999, but resigned in July 2001 as part of a no-contest plea to domestic-violence charges.
Hamby worked for the Hancock County Sheriff's Department briefly in 2001. On Thursday, he was transferred to the Pearl River County Jail, where he was held without bond.
This week's raid followed an eight-month investigation by the MBN, Coastal Narcotics Enforcement Team, the DEA and the Hancock Sheriff's Department.
Unlike other drugs, crystal meth is so potent authorities talk about it in terms of grams, not pounds or kilos. From the Graceland raid, agents recovered 26 grams of crystal meth stashed in 33 individual bags, carrying a street value of more than $3,300.
Perry Malley, 36, was charged with sale of a controlled substance. He was being held in Hancock on a $25,000 bond. Ricky McGill, 48, was cited on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge.
