Constable Fred Peters
07.07.2006 - A Jasper County Constable that has had several bouts with the law is back in jail again. Officials in Hardin County confirmed today that fifty-nine year old Fred Peters was arrested on Wednesday evening at a Silsbee motel in a drug bust carried out by officers from the narcotics unit of the Beaumont Police Department and Silsbee police.
Peters, who serves as the constable of precinct six in the south most end of Jasper County was arrested around 9:30 pm and first taken to the Silsbee Police Department, but later transferred to the Hardin County Jail, where he appeared before precinct three Justice of the Peace Tommy Hall and was officially charged with the manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. After hearing the circumstances of the case Judge Hall set bond on Peters at twenty-five thousand dollars.
Officers say Peters was arrested as the result of an investigation that had been going on for at least a month. They say the investigation began when the received reports that Peters had been dealing drugs.
It is the second time in a month that peters had been arrested. In late June he was taken into custody in Lumberton and later charged with public intoxication after officers with the Lumberton Police Department stopped a car he was riding in.
Peters, who is a resident of Evadale, was first arrested in February of this year, here in Jasper County on a warrant from Jefferson County, charging him with theft by check. However, pending a trial or disposition of the two cases now filed against him, Peters continues to serve as a constable.
