ANDERSON, SC — A former Greenville County Sheriff’s deputy has been charged with attempted criminal sexual conduct with a minor after police conducted an Internet sting operation. Anderson police officers arrested James Joseph Matthews, 35, of 500 Meadow Hill Way in Greer, on Jan. 31 and charged him with criminal solicitation of a minor and attempted criminal sexual conduct with a minor, a news release from the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office said. He was arrested when he arrived in Anderson, supposedly to have sex with a 12-year-old girl he had met online.
