MOUNT DORA, Fla. -- Eyewitness News learned the Orange County Sheriff's Office has recommended filing sexual battery charges against a former Mount Dora police officer accused of forcing a transvestite prostitute to perform a sex act inside his patrol car.
The State Attorney's Office will make the final decision.
The charging affidavit paints a disturbing picture of what happened between a former police lieutenant and a transvestite prostitute in his patrol car. After more than a month investigating, the sheriff's office said the case is ready for court
Former Mount Dora Lieutenant Roger Chilton has always denied the charges he demanded oral sex from a transvestite, but now they have taken on new weight.
"We knew there was more happening than what he was telling us and we got to the truth in the case," said Sgt. Richard Mankewich, Orange County Sheriff's Office.
Orange County detectives said the truth is Chilton picked up James Bronson at a Circle K convenience store and offered him a ride. Inside his police Explorer, detectives said, Chilton fondled Bronson and demanded oral sex.
"I believe he did violate the public trust in this case," Mankewich said.
Initially, Chilton told detectives he never picked Bronson up, but changed his story as he would many times in the investigation, including saying he was on the phone from the Circle K to where he dropped the transvestite off.
"We pulled the cell phone records and revealed that from the time he picked her up to the time he dropped her off, 23-minute time frame, not on the phone at all," Mankewich said.
Chilton turned in his gun and badge to Mount Dora police when the charges were made in late November. He quit the force in December as the case continued and now detectives said there are more questions as to if Chilton ever did this before.
"I hope this is the one and only time, but I guess we’ll never know that," Mankewich said.
The case gets forwarded to the State Attorney's Office. They will have the final say if the charge of sexual battery is filed or not.
