12.06.2006 - A former Waukegan police officer twice ordered a woman to strip and touched her inappropriately when he responded to a report of a domestic dispute in a motel 18 month ago, a Lake County prosecutor said Tuesday.
Officer Mario Antillon, 38, is charged with one count of official misconduct, a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
Greg Nikitas, Antillon's attorney, told the jury in opening statements Tuesday to consider the credibility of the witnesses. "You will find the state has not met its burden," he said.
Antillon went to a motel on Green Bay Road the morning of June 12, 2005, because a Rockford woman had called police complaining about her boyfriend.
Assistant State's Atty. Christine Prusank described to the jury in Lake County Circuit Court what officials believe unfolded next.
She said the woman told Antillon that her boyfriend had not hurt her and she didn't fear him. Antillon said it was his job to check her for bruises and told the woman to take off her dress, and she complied, Prusank said.
Antillon left the motel room, then came back and told the woman he needed to check her a second time, Prusank said. The woman disrobed, and Antillon touched her body inappropriately, Prusank said.
She said Antillon left the room again and took the magnetic card used to enter the room. When Antillon came back and let himself in, the woman began calling people, including her boyfriend, for help, Prusank said. She left the room with Antillon following her, Prusank said.
About two hours later, the woman and her boyfriend called Waukegan police, Prusank said.
Antillon had worked a year for Waukegan police when he was charged in July 2005.
