Officer Lee Giles August 04, 2006 - TACOMA, Wash. -- The mother of a boy whom a retired Tacoma police officer is accused of raping was arrested on Thursday, accused of taking part in the alleged molestation of the boy, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported. Retired 61-year-old Tacoma police Officer Lee Giles is charged with repeatedly raping the boy over a period of nearly nine years. The alleged victim also claims "he was made to perform sex acts with his mother" while she was dating Giles, said KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Kevin McCarty. The woman was booked into the Pierce County Jail on three counts of rape and two counts of child molestation. Acting on a tip Wednesday, police searched Giles' home and arrested him. He had retired in 2000 after nearly 30 years on the force. Detectives collected enough evidence from the retired officer's home to require two vans to haul it away. They seized a computer hard drive and removed dozens of other pieces of evidence from the home.Giles is accused of at least 20 counts of child rape, and more charges are expected. An investigation began recently after an 18-year-old man -- the son of one of the former officer's friends -- told his father that he had been raped from the time he was 9 until he was 14.The former officer is being kept separately from other inmates in the Pierce County Jail. www.kirotv.com/news/9625949/detail.html

Teen who says officer raped him plans $15 million claim 08.24.2006 - A teenager who told authorities that retired Tacoma police officer Lee Giles Jr. and his girlfriend raped him for years is filing a $15 million claim against the City of Tacoma, his lawyer said Wednesday. Russell Van Camp, a Spokane lawyer representing the teen, said he mailed the claim to the city Wednesday. It contends the Tacoma Police Department was responsible for years of abuse the teen says Giles and his girlfriend, Maureen Wear, committed against the teen. "They either knew or should have known," Van Camp said. "They (Giles and Wear) were abusing this young man just horribly for years." Van Camp said Giles and Wear were creating child pornography with the boy, who's now 18 and living in Eastern Washington. The city had not received the claim by the close of business Wednesday, spokesman Rob McNair-Huff said. Even if city officials had received it, they would not have had anything to say, he said. "We can't comment on pending legal claims," McNair-Huff said. A claim is generally the first step in filing a lawsuit against a government. After filing the document, the government has 60 days to respond. After that, the person can sue. The teen, along with his father, also will sue Giles and Wear, the lawyer said. Giles, 61, has been charged in Pierce County Superior Court with eight sex crimes after police say he admitted to raping the teen, a relative of Wear's, for several years in the 1990s and 2000s. Some of the crimes occurred during Giles' 30-year police career, detectives said. Authorities have said Giles also is under investigation in the alleged abuse of two young female relatives. Prosecutors also have charged 46-year-old Wear, a former civilian employee of the Police Department, with child rape, child molestation, sexual exploitation of a minor and possessing child pornography. The charges are related to the teen as well as the two girls. Giles and Wear have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial. The News Tribune is not being more specific about the relationships among Giles, Wear and the children to protect the identities of the girls, now 16 and 12, and the boy. www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/story/6049225p-5308445c.html
