01.18.2007 - A Bradley County jury found a former Cleveland Police officer not guilty on one count of official misconduct on Friday. Ross Allen Wooten still faces one other trial which is scheduled in February. It took a jury less than one-half hour to find Wooten not guilty of the one count. Wooten was charged with two counts of official misconduct in July 2006. “Wooten turned himself in to TBI officials on July 25. The TBI launched its case in March after two inmates complained that Wooten had engaged in sexual relations with them in November 2005,” according to a statement released by Tennessee Bureau of Investigations information officer Jennifer Johnson. Wooten was released from the Bradley County Jail after posting a $10,000 bond. Court officials “severed,” or separated the charges, resulting in the need for two separate trials. Cleveland attorney Joe Hoffer represented Wooten, while assistant district attorney generals John Williams and Steven Hatchet presented the state’s case. Judge Carroll Ross presided over the court. www.clevelandbanner.com/NF/omf/daily_banner/news_story.html?rkey=0063996+cr=gdn
