02/24/2006 - NEW ORLEANS - An Orleans Parish grand jury has indicted a New Orleans police officer on a rape charge.
Keith Griffin, a two-year police veteran, was charged with aggravated rape and second-degree kidnapping.
Griffin was booked with rape, kidnapping and malfeasance in office for allegedly pulling a 37-year-old bicyclist over on July eleventh, driving her to a remote spot along the Industrial Canal and sexually assaulting her. The district attorney's office refused the malfeasance charge.
The woman called police for help immediately after the attack. Griffin was initially placed on desk duty until investigators got the results of forensic tests which resulted in his arrest. Police say he remains on leave without pay.
