02/06/2006 - El Cajon, Calif. -- A police officer was arrested for investigation of soliciting sexual favors from women in exchange for their freedom, officials said.
Police Chief Cliff Diamond said Officer William Robert Taylor allegedly "traded or attempted to trade arrestees release from custody in exchange for sexually provocative conduct." Allegations against Taylor, 26, first surfaced in November and he has been on administrative leave since Dec. 3, Diamond said.
Detectives have identified five alleged victims, he said.
Taylor, a three-year officer, was arrested Friday.
"As the chief of police ... I am appalled at the conduct alleged in these criminal complaints," Diamond said.
Taylor was booked for investigation of five counts of bribery and one count each of sexual battery, rape by a foreign object under color of authority and victim intimidation, according to District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis and jail records.
He was being held at the Central Jail in downtown San Diego in lieu of $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Superior Court, Dumanis said.
