04/13/2006 - South Londonderry Twp. supervisors Tuesday night accepted the resignation of Richard Dimond, the police officer accused of sex crimes involving a 16-year-old girl.
Dimond, 32, of North Cornwall Twp., had been suspended without pay.
Supervisors Chairman Phil Rothermel said the township reached an agreement with Dimond but gave no details.
The Lebanon County district attorney's office on Feb. 15 charged Dimond with sexual abuse of a child/possession of child pornography and corruption of minors.
According to prosecutors, Dimond began a relationship with the girl while he was investigating accusations of sexual assault she brought against two men in 2004.
Police said the girl told them she and Dimond began a sexual relationship after she turned 16 in December.
Police said they found topless photos of the girl on Dimond's computer at work along with e-mails from the girl that contained descriptions of their alleged sexual encounters.
Dimond acknowledged that his relationship was immoral and unethical but contended that it was not illegal, Lebanon County detectives said.
Dimond's preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. April 21 before District Judge Kim Wolfe.
