09.20.2006 - The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office has dismissed an official misconduct charge against a former Washington Township police officer in exchange for his guilty plea to a disorderly persons offense. Officer Danny Moore, who turns 43 today, pleaded guilty Monday in Superior Court to harassment. He acknowledged he made harassing phone calls to his estranged wife. Judge Walter L. Marshall Jr. fined Moore $25. As part of his plea, Moore has agreed not to seek future employment as a police officer or other public servant, said his attorney, Louis G. Hasner of Cherry Hill. In June, Marshall ordered a new trial for Moore, who was convicted in 2004 of official misconduct and harassment. Marshall ruled Moore had ineffective counsel because defense attorney John Angelucci refused to allow Moore to testify on his own behalf at trial. Moore, a 12-year police veteran, was found guilty of using police equipment to track his wife and making harassing phone calls, violating a restraining order. He was sentenced to three years in state prison but completed his sentence earlier this year through the state's Intensive Supervision Program. "The agreement was reached with the victim's knowledge and it satisfied the state's interest in ensuring that he (Moore) no longer will be involved in law enforcement," said Bernie Weisenfeld, the prosecutor's spokesman. www.courierpostonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060920/NEWS01/609200377/1006

09.21.2006 - WOODBURY -- Even though former Washington Township police officer Danny Moore served his time in prison, he still wanted to clear his name stemming from a 2004 conviction. He got that wish this week, when the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office agreed to drop the most serious charges -- in exchange for Moore pleading guilty to a disorderly persons charge of harassment, a municipal court violation which carried a $25 fine. This deal does preclude Moore, who turned 43 on Wednesday, from ever being employed at a public position -- including police officer -- in New Jersey. In June, Superior Court Judge Walter Marshall Jr. ordered that Moore get a new trial after ruling that the former patrolman did not get adequate guidance from his attorney during the trial. Convicted of official misconduct and harassment, Moore, a 12-year veteran to the police force, spent 99 days in prison before being released on an intense parole program. He had been accused of using police equipment to locate his estranged wife and harass her, and violating a restraining order. "Danny was hoping to again become a police officer, but more importantly, he wanted to clear his name," said attorney Louis Hasner, who has represented Moore during the appeal. "His conviction has been erased." The plea was accepted with consent from Moore's former wife and "ensures Moore will be barred from law enforcement occupations in New Jersey," according to a statement from Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton. During Moore's trial, testimony revealed that he made at least 15 phone calls considered "harassing" to his wife over a three-day period in 2002 and followed her in a patrol car from Washington Township to Deptford, according to the statement. www.nj.com/news/gloucester/local/index.ssf?/base/news-4/1158847910276690.xml&coll=8
