09.28.2006 - The federal civil trial of possible police brutality by a Chattanooga police officer is now in a jury's hand. David Draper accused several members of the Chattanooga police department of taking him to the ground and punching him after the 2003 Bessie Smith Strut. Draper identified Sergeant Pedro Bacon as one of the officers. Testimony in this trial which started early last week indicates another white man in a similar shirt had flipped off officers. Draper says he suffered recurring headaches and panic attacks. He is seeking one million dollars. ------- 09.28.2006 - Attorneys settled a federal lawsuit today that claimed a Chattanooga police officer beat a man after the 2003 Bessie Smith Strut. The settlement came after two and a half days of jury deliberations in the case. David Draper claimed Officer Pedro Bacon and other police officer “viciously attacked him from behind” as he waited to get into a local bar near the intersection of M.L. King Boulevard and Houston Street. Both Mr. Draper and Officer Bacon said they were glad the ordeal was over. www.tfponline.com/absolutenm/templates/breaking.aspx?articleid=4985&zoneid=41
