September 12, 2006 - ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Sioux County Sheriff Chief Deputy Randy Waterman was fired last week in the middle of a criminal investigation against him, Sioux County Sheriff Dan Altena said Saturday. Waterman's paid administrative leave ended Wednesday with his termination, Altena said. He would not share the reason for Waterman's firing, citing confidentiality of personnel issues. The basis of the criminal investigation against Waterman has also not been identified because it is ongoing and it is of a sensitive nature, Altena previously said. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is in charge of the investigation, he said. The sheriff's office will soon begin the process of hiring a new chief deputy to replace Waterman, Altena said. He said he will most likely promote from within the sheriff's office for the position but plans on waiting several months to do so. Waterman was employed by the Sioux County Sheriff's Office since 1991 and was chosen by Altena to become chief deputy in January 2005. www.siouxcityjournal.com/articles/2006/09/10/news/iowa/c681a2b21960b381862571e5000fb96e.txt
