05/05/2006 - ATLANTA -- An apparent case of road rage involving an Atlanta police officer driving her personal car has landed the officer’s sister in jail. No charges have been filed against the officer, but the officer’s passenger – her sister -- and another driver are in the Fulton County Jail, charged with Reckless Conduct and Criminal Trespass.
It began with a road rage incident, including an argument and pursuit, and ended with Cynthia Stokes being charged with Criminal Trespass and Britney Slaton, the sister of police officer Consuela Slaton, being charged with Reckless Conduct.
Attorney and witness, Marcus Vickers, said he saw a woman in her Ford Taurus surrounded by a swarm of officers in downtown Atlanta Thursday morning, some of them with their guns drawn on Stokes. “It was a sight to see,” he says.
Timika Wilcosen says the woman in the Taurus, her friend Cynthia Stokes, was a victim of road rage – that an Atlanta cop driving off duty in her personal car felt like Stokes cut her off in traffic along 75/85 northbound.
“She said she was getting over, a car said she cut them off, they got up next to her and waved a gun at her. It was not the Atlanta police officer that waved the gun, it was the passenger,” Wilcosen says.
The Atlanta Police are confirming that an altercation took place between the officer and Stokes. They say they are investigating.
The officer has not been charged in the incident.
