MACON, GEORGIA – A grand jury indicted a Macon police officer today on a charge of felony obstruction Tuesday for allegedly choking an on-duty officer.
Torrance DeMichael Gore, who was off duty at the time, is accused of choking and strong-arming Officer Ryan Willis, who was responding to a Feb. 6 call at Tee's Lounge at 2981 Broadway, according to a Macon police report. The report states other officers had to intervene to subdue Gore.
Gore has been working at the front desk of the police department's detective bureau since the incident, police spokeswoman Sgt. Melanie Hofmann said.
Macon Police Chief Mike Burns, who was out of town today, e-mailed a short response to The Telegraph about the indictment.
"The Macon Police Deportment will not tolerate an officer being indicted for obstructing another officer from performing their duties," Burns wrote in the e-mail. "The indicted officer will be placed on administrative leave pending termination, per Human Resources guidelines."
