June 06, 2006 - NEW ORLEANS The New Orleans Police Department's Public Integrity Bureau this afternoon arrested officer Marchant Paxton.
According to investigators, Paxton confronted and accused a neighbor of burglarizing his residence in an Algiers apartment complex in March.
The 48-year-old victim alleged that Paxton struck him in the face with his service weapon, causing a minor laceration. Later D-N-A testing of the weapon proved that it was used in the assault.
Paxton had been on administrative reassignment since March and is currently suspended without pay pending a disciplinary review by Superintendent Warren Riley.
