03/10/2006 - The lawyer for a Cocke County deputy accused of perjury and witness tampering told jurors her client was charged in retaliation because he wouldn't be a "snitch.
Deputy John Wayne "Johnny" Black is on trial in federal court in Greeneville on charges stemming from his personal injury lawsuit against Suzuki Motor Corporation after an off-duty motorcycle accident.
The indictment handed down in November said Black lied under oath during his lawsuit by denying that he was doing a "wheelie" when the wreck happened.
His lawyer, Joanne Sheldon, said Black was retaliated against by being indicted because he wouldn't tell on others in a separate federal investigation of corruption in the county.

Police officers expect citizens to "snitch," but apparently police officers don't believe in snitching.
There's a lesson to be learned here I think.
