03/25/2006 - A Columbus police officer is being charged with misdemeanor assault.
The officer's accuser explains why.
Court documents indicate Sarah Kroger was charged with drug abuse and driving under the influence January 22nd when she was taken to Columbus Police Headquarters.
"I don't know what happened. But once she came in the room, you could just feel the tension," said Kroger.
That's when Kroger says she and police officer Bridget Kimbrough started calling each other names. Kroger claims the verbal assault escalated while she was being handcuffed.
"When she choked me, that's the part I couldn't believe because I could not breathe. Now what if I would have died? Then how would you have explained that?"
Earlier this week, Kimbrough was charged with two misdemeanor assault charges stemming from the altercation. Court records state Kimbrough is accused of choking and slapping Kroger while in the elevator at police headquarters.
Another document says the officer choked Kroger in the division's Identification Bureau.
"When she smacks me, my whole body just falls back. My legs go up in the air, you know? I can't even help myself."
Kroger said she is thankful it was all caught on tape.
"If they did not have them cameras going and taping this incident, I don't know that they would believe me."
The Division of Police put Officer Kimbrough on desk duty when the criminal investigation started. 10TV attempted to contact Officer Kimbrough for her side of the story, but she was not at home.
Kimbrough was scheduled to be arraigned March 31.
