04/05/2006 - Prosecutors filed felony charges Tuesday against a former Escambia County sheriff's deputy accused of beating and stomping handcuffed suspects during two arrests.
Authorities charged James Sullivan with one count of felony battery and two counts of aggravated battery, the Pensacola News Journal reported.
The charges stem from a December 2004 arrest in which Sullivan is accused of hitting a handcuffed suspect over the head with a flashlight and a February 2005 case involving another suspect.
Sullivan resigned in March 2005 before an investigation was completed.
