06.03.2006 - Former Memphis police officer James Fetter pleaded guilty on Monday. He was charged with two counts of conspiring to deprive others of civil rights and using his position as an officer to steal money during a traffic stop.
Last year, Fetter and his former partner, Adam Gagnier, were both indicted on federal charges. As part of a plea deal, Fetter admits he and Gagnier pulled over two people in February of 2004 and stole $3,000 from them with no law enforcement justification.
Fetter also says that following marital problems in 2004, he conspired with Gagnier to falsely arrest and imprison Fetter's wife.
Fetter faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each conspiracy violation and 1 year in prison and a $100,000 fine for other charges.
In December, Adam Gagnier pleaded guilty to mail fraud and civil rights violations. Jennifer Vickery, another former partner of Gagnier's, also pleaded guilty to civil rights violations.
