A former Pleasantville police officer filed a civil suit monday against eight Egg harbor Township police officers, the township and his ex-girlfriend, claiming harassment and civil rights violations.
Pierr Reid Sr. 40 of egg Harbor Township, claims the Harassment began in september, 2003, after a member of the department began dating Reid's then live-in girlfriend. The woman Michelle Nieves and the officer scott Nell, have since married, Reid said.
According to the four-count complaint. reid was driving his children, Pierre Jr, 15, and Kristen, 9, and a 15 year old male into his complex sept 13, 2003, when he was confronted by six officers neamed in the suit. Nell was not among them. The officers all had their weapons drawn and pointed at the vehicle's four occupants, the suit claims. reid tried ti flee but then returned to the complex, where he was told by Lt. Larry Szapor, who is named in the suit, that the officers were serving a temporary restraining order signed by Nieves.
A domestic violence investigation, stemming from Nieves' allegations, followed. It was led by nell, who acted as though he had no prior relationship with Nieves, the complaint states. The two had already begun dating, according to Reid.
Reid was acquitted of all criminal charges, according to the complaint, and found guilty of a petty disorderly persons offense.
On September 15, 2003, reid claims that six members of the townshi's police department, not including Nell, came at him with guns drawn as he attempted to get into his gar from a friend's home in the Tilton apartments. The suit alleges that during the altercation, reid was forced to remove his pants and underwear to prove he did not have a weapon, and then was maced.
Reid has said he was told after the incident that the police believed the former girlfriend, whose home it was, had a restraining order against him.
Reid filed a criminal complaint in April, in which he also named three investigators with the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. They were cleared by the office, he said. He went to the FBI last week in that case.
Egg Harbor Township Chief coyle was not available for comment Tuesday. He issued a news release in april after the criminal complaints were filed, saying the complaints had been forward to the Municipal Court for a probable-Cause hearing and to the county Prosecutor.
"He's made allegations, and we'll certainly investigate them," Coyle said at the time, decling futher comments.
Reid is seeking damages and an injunction permanently restraing the defendants from contact with him.
I will update you on the Oct, 12, 2005 incident and the sexual contact with a minior tuesday. Thank you.
