12.27.2006 - In news that shocked the region, KFDM in Beaumont reported on Friday that forty-eight year old Gary Parks, the Tyler County Sheriff’s Deputy that reported that he had been shot in a routine traffic stop earlier this month had admitted that he lied about the incident. The report said that Tyler County Sheriff Jessie Wolf had fired parks, who was a seventeen year veteran of the department, after he admitted that he had faked the shooting by even shooting his bullet proof vest. Parks had told his fellow officers that the shooting occurred as he performed a routine traffic stop near Hillister, which is located south of Woodville. During that evening and in the days that followed officers throughout southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana searched for an alleged suspect in the case. The motive for Parks’ lies is not known but one source close to the case has said that he might have been trying to receive a medical retirement. It is unknown at this time whether the Tyler County Sheriff’s Department and the district attorney will pursue charges against Parks for filing a false report and making false statements to officers. news.mywebpal.com/news_tool_v2.cfm?show=localnews&pnpID=974&NewsID=771534&CategoryID=18335&on=1
