11.14.2006 - It is bad enough when police have to be called to youth sports events to control parents who cannot control themselves. But it is much worse when it is a police officer who is the out-of-control parent. That was the case in Derry, N.H., at an April 15 soccer game at the SportsZone indoor sports complex. State Trooper Susan Harbour, 47, of Hooksett, was charged with three counts of simple assault after she confronted Cameron Chisholm, 17, and his coach, Rick Morgan, of Derry, following a game in which her son was on the opposing team. According to Chisholm and Morgan, although Harbour was not on duty, she showed her police badge. They said she yelled at them, shoved Morgan back into a chair when he tried to get up, and shoved Chisholm out of the room where she was arguing, almost jamming his fingers in the hinges of a door. Citizens have a right to expect that police officers will be held to a higher standard when it comes to obeying the law. But that is not the case here. According to state police Lt. Mark Myrdek, Harbour has and will face discipline, although he would not specify the sanctions. But Derry District Court Judge John Coughlin accepted a deal that withdraws two of the charges and will dismiss the third if Harbour maintains good behavior for 30 days. www.eagletribune.com/opinion/local_story_317123116?keyword=topstory
