Officer Alejandro Jaramillo is a big cry baby bully!

07.28.2006 - JERSEY CITY - A former Weehawken police officer broke out in tears Thursday as he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The former officer Alejandro Jaramillo, 29, was sentenced to eight years for aggrivated assault and seven years for three counts of official misconduct by state Superior court Judge Kevin Callahan, sitting in Jersey City. The sentence stems from an incident that occured three years ago.

On July 16, 2003 in Union City, Officer Jaramillo, only months on the job, was off-duty when he punched Jose Luis Ives, Jr. once in the face in front of the teen's home. Ives fractured his skull on the pavement and later died. Ives had been a junior at Union Hill High School.

The victim's mother, Lusia Ives, spoke in court saying, "I keep suffering day after day."

The victim's father, Jose Ives, Sr. who also addressed the court, said his boy's death warranted more than 15 years in prison.

Assistant Hudson County prosecutor Alvaro Iglesias spoke of an officer's duty, raising his voice to say, "A badge is not a license to be a bully."

The officer's attorney, Robert Galantucci, in sayaing he believed 15 years was too harsh, said he will appeal the sentencing. Galantucci added, "Everyone keeps calling this a homicide case. It's a one-punch, tragic cae. But it's an assault case." Galantucci read a letter from Jaramillo in which he apologized for what happened.

The former officer himself, did not speak in court, but his father did. Jorge Jaramillo, said through a translator, "A fatality took place for both families.

Officer Jaramillo must serve at least 85 per-cent of the 8-year sentence before beginning the 7-year term. He has been in jail since shortly after the confrontation with Ives. The three years he's already served will be credited against his prison term.

I hope every morning when Officer Alejandro Jaramillo wakes up in prison, that he is punched in his face. Then again being punched in the face, is one of the lessor things he has to worry about in prison.

I know that is site is supposed to bash cops, but this story, unless you know the facts about it, is complicated. The only thing he did wrong was not act professionaly when it came to his report. Officer Jaramillio stands 5'6" tall, while the "boy" was 6 feet tall. Also the "boy" and his brothers who were there at the time have juvenille records and the two surviving brothers actually still have open cases in unrelated matters. Was what happned a tradegy? Absolutely!!! But let's not paint this as a cop being a bully on helpless kids. What is was and is is an officer using poor judgement and getting involved in a situation where he was way over his head. He thought he was doing his job, but he did it wrong. That he is guilty of!!! He gets 15 years for a tragic accident, but scumbag drug dealers get 4 years over and over again everytime they are caught. where is the justice in that? Are there crooked cops out there? I suppose there is. But don't lump this guy in with those pieces of you-know-what.

You say he thought he was doing his job? There has to be more to the story, because he was off duty at the time. What was he doing there in the first place?

So he gets out in 8-15 years, the kid is never coming back!

August 02, 2006 - A Superior Court judge has sentenced a former Weehawken police officer to 15 years in prison for his involvement in the death of a Union City teenager three years ago.

Even though a jury in May found former Weehawken cop Alejandro Jaramillo not guilty of murdering 17-year-old Jose Luis Ives, Jr. on a Weehawken/Union City street corner on July 17, 2003, the 29-year-old Jaramillo was found guilty of aggravated assault and official misconduct.

On Thursday, Superior Court Judge Kevin Callahan sentenced Jaramillo to eight years for the assault charges and seven years for official misconduct, for allegedly trying to cover up the incident.

On that fateful July night, the teenaged Ives and Jaramillo got into an altercation after the off-duty Jaramillo spotted Ives' two younger brothers setting off car alarms in Weehawken. The jury determined that Jaramillo punched Ives in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement and fracturing his skull.

The teenager, set to be a junior at Union Hill High School that fall, died eight days later of the injuries he suffered as a result of the altercation.

Jaramillo, who was spotted crying during the sentencing, with his lower lip quivering, did not say anything during the proceeding.

His attorney, Robert Galantucci, read a statement that Jaramillo apparently wrote in his jail cell a few hours before his appearance in court to receive his fate.

Jamamillo writes a letter

"Tomorrow morning, I am scheduled to be sentenced by you for what happened on the worst day of my life," Jaramillo's statement read. "A young man, Jose Ives, lost his life. I am in jail and separated from my family and fiancée. I am no longer a police officer, something I wanted all my life. But worse than that, Jose Ives is dead. I cannot do anything to bring him back. The reason I became a police officer was to help people and not to hurt anyone."

Jaramillo's letter continued, "Every day since, I have felt pain for the loss that Jose Ives' family and friends must feel. I pray for their consolation. Although my lawyer said I would have a chance to speak at sentencing, I am afraid I will not be able to express how I feel. That is why I am writing this letter. I am sorry for what has happened and will live with what happened every day of my life."

Jaramillo was escorted out of the courtroom in handcuffs. He stopped to say something to a friend who was seated in the back of the courtroom and proceeded out in the custody of Hudson County Sheriff's officers.

Galantucci said that he plans to appeal the sentencing. He asked Judge Callahan to have the sentences run concurrently, but Callahan refuted that claim, saying the aggravated assault and subsequent cover up attempts were "distinct and separate crimes."

"He's never been in trouble before, and it was only one punch," Galantucci said in published and televised reports. "We feel like he got sentenced for murder. There is no question in my mind, that if the man was not a cop, punches someone one time, no drugs, no alcohol, never been in trouble, he would have gotten five years, that's it. No question."

While Jaramillo's attorney believed the sentence to be too severe, the Ives family disagreed.

"It's not enough time, 15 years," said Jose Ives, Sr., the father of the victim. "My son will never return. My son was sentenced to life. From that day on, we have had only anguish and pain. There has never been a phone call for an apology."

He added, "This man has never shown any pain for what he did. This is a pain I will carry the rest of my life."

"The only mistake my son made was to in the way of an evil person," said Luisa Ives, the mother of the late teenager. "He didn't do anything. That person has ended my life, my joy, everything. Here you have a person who deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail."

Jaramillo's father, Jorge, addressed the court and the family, expressing their sorrow for their loss.

Jaramillo must serve at least 85 percent of the eight-year sentence before beginning the seven-year term. Since he has been incarcerated since the incident, those three years will be credited toward his overall prison stay.

With good behavior, Jaramillo may receive parole in as few as eight years.

Repeated phone calls to Galantucci and to Ives family attorney Anthony Mack were not returned by press time.

This web site is often labeled as a cop bashing web site. The true cop bashers are the drooling media bloodhounds. We are mere collectors of their scribblings. The over all message that we receive from cops is that only pom pom waving cheer leaders are allowed to speak about police officers. Anything negative, although true, is cop bashing. We civilians are expected to “See no evil, Hear no evil and Speak no evil” when it concerns bad cops doing bad things. Do we ever say good things about police officers in this forum? Rarely. This would be comparing apples to oranges. The web site name is about CRIMES that police commit.

On a different note it sounds like you have inside information or additional information on this situation. This is the right place to post it. The media will not do it for you. Although I personally am sour on LE as a profession I will not bad mouth an individual good cop for being good. Being labeled as a "Cop lover" is not foul language in my book.

Some psychologist suggest that if a person is angry to go out and kick a car tire. This relieves some of the anger. Better to kick a car tire than to go out and do something even more stupid out of anger. I view most postings, including my own, as “Venting”. A jury of 12 people found this guy to be a lying piece shit, that killed someone. What tha fuck you mean "accident?" The jury didn't find that is was an accident. He deliberately hit the kid and for what reason? To cause harm.

Officer Alejandro Jaramillo is guilty of being lying piece of shit and a murderer.

You should tell the truth about the picture. He wasn't crying when he got sentenced. He was crying when he heard the parents of the victim speaking about their loss. Any real man can understand his mistake and become emotional about it. He actually stood there emotionless as he was sentenced. He took his sentence like a man.
