09.07.2006 - FALL RIVER - A city cop was arrested by his fellow officers Monday night after he allegedly pointed an automatic handgun at a woman outside his Cleveland Street home.
Officer Robert B. Ogden, 46, is charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of domestic assault and battery. He will be arraigned at Second District Court Oct. 5. The reason for the delay in arraignment was not disclosed Tuesday.
Police reports penned by three separate officers describe a tense "hostage situation" inside the Cleveland Street home where Ogden allegedly slapped his live-in girlfriend, pointed a gun at her and threatened her life.
"Oh my God, he's got a gun to my head," the victim yelled as Ogden allegedly threatened her with the weapon.
Witnesses told police Ogden threatened to take the woman's life.
"You're going to die tonight, you're going to f--- die," Ogden allegedly told the victim.
Police reports state Ogden had been drinking alcohol during much of the night before allegedly running into the home to confront the woman about an ongoing domestic dispute.
When several officers arrived at the home, they said they saw the victim screaming from a second-floor window.
"I looked up and saw her face pressed against the screen. She yelled to Officer [David] Gouveia and I, 'Get me out of here,'" Officer Lisa Ahaesy's report states.
Ogden initially ordered police to stay away from the house, police said.
But at some point, according to police reports, Ogden chose to release the woman from the home and eventually allowed specific police officers into the home, where he was finally arrested. During an interview in his home, Ogden allegedly admitted to having "several drinks" before taking a drive with his loaded handgun in tow.
A report by Sgt. Leonel Rebello states he had responded to Ogden's address in the past for a domestic incident. His report also states that a cache of firearms was seized from Ogden's home during the incident.
His report, however, also states that Ogden denied ever hitting or pointing his weapon at the woman. But witness statements recorded by other officers indicate he was seen pointing the gun to the woman's face.
A brief prepared release by the department's Office of Professional Standards states Ogden has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a criminal and internal investigation.
