04/21/2006 - SALT LAKE CITY -- A former Lehi police officer accused of wounding his ex-wife's boyfriend and exchanging gunfire with police was found dead Thursday at the Salt Lake County jail, authorities said.
The death of Arthur B. Henderson, 38, was confirmed by Sgt. Paul Jaroscak of the Salt Lake County sheriff's office, who said additional details would be released later.
Henderson was awaiting trial on five counts of attempted aggravated murder, one count of aggravated assault, another of domestic-violence-related criminal mischief and three counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges, and a trial had been scheduled to begin July 14.
Henderson was accused of ramming his pickup truck into his ex-wife's car in January, then shooting her boyfriend in the leg and abdomen. Prosecutors said he also fired at police, striking a patrol car windshield.
Lehi officers returned fire, hitting Henderson in the left knee and foot.
Henderson was fired from the Lehi police in 2004 after he was charged with misdemeanor simple assault.
