Officer Robert John Thropp III June 30, 2006 - veteran Crescent City police officer was arrested Friday, accused of choking his daughter and pointing a gun at his wife in what Putnam County authorities described as a "bout of anger." Robert John Thropp III was accused of aggravated assault and child abuse after sheriff's deputies investigated a complaint filed by his wife. According to authorities, Thropp and his wife had been arguing for a few days, but he became violent Thursday night. They said he first became rough with his daughter while tickling her, and when she pushed him away, he started choking the child. The wife intervened and the child was not harmed. Several hours later, deputies said Thropp became irate, retrieved a .357-caliber Magnum revolver, pointed it has his wife's head and told her to leave their Satsuma home. She gathered their daughter and went to her workplace and called police. Deputies found Thropp at home and arrested him. Putnam County deputies said they recovered the handgun allegedly used in the assault, along with 20 other firearms in the house. Thropp is being held on $5,004 bond.
