04/21/2006 - Albany -- A Dougherty County Police Officer is arrested after an early morning argument with his wife became physical. Thirty-seven-year-old Reginald Shingles is charged with battery and child cruelty, both misdemeanors.
Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek said that Shingles and his wife were arguing at their home about 1:15 AM Wednesday, when he grabbed her.
Cheek said Shingles did not hit his wife, but left marks on her neck and shoulder where he grabbed her. Their child saw the argument, leading to the child cruelty charges.
Shingles' wife called Police, and he was charged with the domestic family violence charges. "This is just one of those unfortunate occasions. But because of the posture that law enforcement in general has taken regarding family violence and the Georgia Family Violence law, charges do have to be filed," said Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek.
Shingles is an 18-year-veteran of the Dougherty County Police, and is working as a Detective. He has been suspended with pay pending a resolution of the charges. Shingles was released on two thousand dollars bond.
